Rope Rescue

TECH RESQ’s rope rescue program is designed to take a beginner rope rescuer to rope rescue technician. The curriculum is progressive to meet the current editions of NFPA 1670 and 1006.

Each day is scheduled for 8 to 10 hours. Meeting the course objectives and student competency will determine the times for each day.

Each student is responsible for the following Personal Protective Equipment:

Helmet - a low profile rescue type helmet is preferred but a fire helmet is acceptable
Gloves - Rope rescue gloves or close fitting leather glove
Pants - Long Pants
Footwear - Lugged soft soled shoes or boots (no leather soles allowed)

ROPE RESCUE I
2 Days
Student to Instructor Ratio 10:1

This class meets and exceeds NFPA 1670, 2004 edition Awareness Level. Rope I provides rescuers with the techniques necessary to perform rappelling based rescues.

Course objectives include rope rescue equipment use, selection, and care; knots, bends, and hitches; rigging techniques, single point anchors; descending; belay systems; self-rescue; and rappeller based pick-offs.

ROPE RESCUE II
2 Days
Student to Instructor Ratio 10:1

Prerequisites: Rope Rescue I or equivalent

This class is designed to meet NFPA 1670, 2004 edition Low Angle Operations Level. This course introduces rescuers to ascending and the techniques necessary to move patients in a low angle environment.

Course objectives include: ascending, simple mechanical advantage systems, lowering and raising systems, multiple point load sharing anchors, patient packaging, and tending litters in the low angle environment.

Rope Rescue III
2 Days
Student to Instructor Ratio 10:1

Prerequisites: Rope Rescue II or equivalent

This class combined with Rope II is designed to meet and exceed the NFPA 1670, 2004 edition High Angle Operations Level. This class builds on the skills taught in Rope II to give rescuers the techniques necessary to move patients in the high angle environment.

Course objectives include: compound mechanical advantage systems, double line lowering systems, raising systems, artificial high point directionals, team based pick-offs, and suspended victim litter scoop.

Rope Rescue IV
2 Days
Student to Instructor Ratio 10:1

Prerequisites: Rope Rescue III or equivalent

Rope Rescue IV is the advanced class designed to meet the Technician requirements of the current editions of NFPA 1670 and 1006. This class gives rescuers the techniques needed to perform some of the most difficult rope rescue systems.

Course objectives include: passing a knot through lowering and raising systems, multiple point load-distributing anchor systems, and constructing and operating highline systems.
